About CueCheck
CueCheck is a focused subtitle review tool for editors and caption creators. It checks visible character counts, reading speed, line lengths, line counts, and overlapping or invalid timings in SRT and WebVTT files.
Transparent review thresholds
The English adult preset uses 20 characters per second; the English children's preset uses 17. Both use 42 characters per line and two lines per cue. These reference values come from the Netflix English (USA) Timed Text Style Guide, checked November 2, 2026. Spaces and punctuation are counted, following the official reading speed explanation.
CueCheck counts Unicode code points after formatting tags are removed. Line breaks are excluded. Multi-code-point emoji and combined letters may count as more than one character. Choose thresholds for your language and delivery requirements.
What a report means
A flagged cue needs review, rather than an automatic timing change. Suggested extra time is a mathematical estimate; extending a cue may collide with speech, the next cue, or a scene change. CueCheck does not inspect audio, shot boundaries, translation accuracy, accessibility quality, or every platform requirement.
This is an independent tool, unaffiliated with Netflix. A clear report is not delivery certification.
